Artistic Director's Vision
My vision for this program began with a desire to show the many connections between Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, including the Corpus Christi Chorale, to the greater Texas community and beyond.
The Chorale includes numerous TAMU-CC students, faculty and staff. One graduate in particular, Sam Reynolds, represents the finest quality of talent to come through the TAMU-CC Music Department. A native of Aransas Pass, Texas, Sam lives in Florida and sings with Maestro Bill Doherty’s St. Timothy Catholic Church choir and the Central Florida Lyric Opera, which Mr. Doherty founded.
Bill Doherty, composer of In Memoriam: Messa di Requiem, is one of the nation’s leading vocal coaches, with studios in Florida and New York City. His students have drawn international attention in principal roles with opera companies throughout the United States and Europe, on and off Broadway, and by winning top awards in national and international vocal competitions. An internally recognized teacher and workshop clinician, Mr. Doherty has conducted master classes in opera and voice at universities and conservatories throughout the world.
Mr. Doherty’s Requiem, had its world premiere in Jerusalem, and has been performed in Florida and in Rome, Italy. The Corpus Christi Chorale will be offering the fourth performance ever of this music.
Not often do we have the opportunity to be in the presence of the composer of the music we are singing. Mr. Doherty will be here for the performance as well as the final rehearsal with the orchestra. Over the three-day period, Mr. Doherty will offer an open vocal master class for selected singers. In addition, Sam Reynolds will give a recital.
